
Inaugural Meeting of the New Foreign Relations Committee – FPCCI

On 21st April 2025, The inaugural meeting of the newly formed Foreign Relations Committee was held at the Guard Hall of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry Capital House in Islamabad. The committee is chaired by Mr. Zaildar Ahsan Shah.
During his opening address, Mr. Zaildar Ahsan Shah welcomed all committee members, including Mr. Malik Sohail Hussain, Chairman Coordinator of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), along with representatives from various business sectors and foreign relations experts. He provided an overview of FPCCI’s role as Pakistan’s premier trade body and emphasized the committee’s objectives to strengthen international trade cooperation, attract foreign investment, and address trade-related challenges.
Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, CEO, RK Consultants and a committee member, shared encouraging updates regarding foreign investment interest in Pakistan. He mentioned that more than 13 Chinese companies across multiple sectors are planning to visit Pakistan as part of a 20-member business delegation. Drawing from his expertise in Eurasian and Central Asian trade relations, Mr. Akram highlighted his commitment to leveraging his diplomatic and business networks to foster stronger economic ties between Pakistan and these regions.
Mr. Ovais Ali Khokhar, key member of the committee, reaffirmed the group’s mission to promote trade, business, and investment between Pakistan and other countries. He expressed optimism that the committee would work effectively within its mandate to contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth and global trade integration.
Dr. Hina Shahid, also a member of the committee provided insights on enhancing regional trade connectivity, particularly in the context of initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other multilateral agreements.
The committee outlined its focus on improving regional trade, facilitating business-to-business engagements, and creating a more investor-friendly environment in Pakistan. Key priorities include strengthening ties with China, Central Asia, and Eurasia, addressing investment barriers, and expanding Pakistan’s export markets through collaboration with international trade bodies.
The meeting was attended by prominent business community members including Dr. Farah Rani, Ms. Sarah Farooq, Mr. Abdul Basit, Mr. Shoeb Ahmed, Mr. Malik Amjad, Mr. Makhdoom Sher Iqbal, Mr. Sardar Sajjad, Mr. Omer Rasool, Mr. Muhammad Mateen Khan, Mr. Shamsher Iqbal, Mr. Ghazi Ali Hassan, and Mr. Sardar Khan Khosa, all members of the newly formed Foreign Relations Committee.
